On 1 December 2025 in Barcelona, Spain, the Kilian Jornet Foundation (KJF) and Deporte para la Educación y la Salud (DES), strategic coordinators of the European Week of Winter Sports (EWWS), hosted the EWWS 2026 Local Workshop. The event was held in partnership with the Federació d’Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya (FEEC – Catalan Federation of Hiking Organizations), which brought together representatives from more than 20 clubs, entities, and schools across Spain, reflecting the growing national interest in the initiative.
Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government Railways) also joined the session, presenting one of the 2025 pilot events and sharing sustainability initiatives integrated into their project. Their participation offered attendees a practical example of embedding environmental responsibility into winter sports events.
During the workshop, EWWS coordinators introduced the 2026 framework, presented resources and support for organizers, and guided participants through registering their activities on the official EWWS platform. The session aimed to strengthen a network of associations committed to EWWS core values: promoting winter sports, encouraging community feeling and inclusivity, and advancing sustainability across all events.
The feedback from all attendees was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the growing momentum behind EWWS as preparations continue for the 2026 edition.
