Every movement starts with an idea — and a question.
For us, it was this: what if winter sport could become not only a season of competition, but a season of connection?
Connection between people and nature, between health and sustainability, between tradition and change.
That idea became the European Week of Winter Sport (EWWS) – a shared journey across Europe to rediscover the joy of being active in winter while caring for the world that makes it possible.
Along the way, we’ve met researchers, athletes, municipalities, teachers, and volunteers – each adding a piece to the puzzle.
Together, we’ve built something that now belongs to everyone: a collection of knowledge, stories, and tools for those who want to make winter sport more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable.
Before we could inspire others, we had to understand.
What does sustainability really mean on snow and ice?
How do local clubs and organizers face the environmental and logistical challenges of winter events?
From these questions were born two key studies – one mapping the best sustainable practices across Europe, the other analysing the environmental impact of winter sport.
They are the foundation on which everything else stands: a clear picture of where we are, and a compass for where we need to go.
Numbers tell part of the story. People tell the rest.
We spoke with clubs, federations, and local organizers from every corner of Europe, collecting their experiences, obstacles, and creative solutions.
The result is a vibrant picture of how winter sport lives at grassroots level — passionate, fragile, full of potential.
All that knowledge became a set of practical tools designed for you — for those who want to create, promote, or support winter sport events in their community.
The EWWS Toolkit offers templates, visuals, sustainability tips, and communication guidelines to help turn an idea into an event.
The EWWS Guide provides a quick, accessible introduction to the values and structure of the initiative — perfect for newcomers and institutions ready to take part.
Because knowledge alone isn’t enough — we need stories that move us.
That’s why we created two video series to bring sustainability and creativity to life.
How to Promote Your Event (D3.1)
Five short, hands-on tutorials that teach you how to tell the story of your event — how to capture its energy, inspire participation, and communicate with authenticity.
From camera angles to subtitles, from storytelling to budget, they’ll help you share your local event with the world.
Sustainability in Action (D3.4)
Ten vivid stories showing what “zero impact” means in practice.
From waste reduction to green transport and local sourcing, each video turns a sustainability principle into something real, tangible, and possible.
Every report, every toolkit, every video tells a piece of a larger story — one written by hundreds of people who believe that winter sport can be both a celebration and a responsibility.
These resources are not the end of the project. They’re the beginning of yours.
Use them. Adapt them. Share them with your team, your club, your city.
And when you’re ready, join the movement — bring winter to life in your own way, and become part of a Europe that moves, connects, and cares.
