Project

Project Summary
European Week of Winter Sport (EWWS) is a large-scale initiative co-funded by the European Union, designed to celebrate the power of winter sports to inspire movement, foster inclusion, and promote sustainability across Europe.
Taking place every year from the 1st to the 8th of February, the EWWS brings together communities, institutions, schools, clubs, and individuals in a coordinated effort to make winter sport more accessible, visible, and impactful — from mountain villages to urban neighborhoods.
Mission and Objectives
The priority that the project addresses the most is “Encouraging healthy lifestyles for all” with a focus on promoting physical activity and sport as a tool for health.
This is evident from the project’s objectives, which include promoting physical activity in winter, making winter sports more accessible and inclusive, and raising awareness about climate change and sustainability through winter sports.
Ultimately, the European Week of Winter Sport is about creating a lasting legacy of environmental stewardship, inspiring communities to embrace shared responsibility for preserving the natural beauty of winter sports destinations. Together, we aim to ensure that future generations can enjoy the thrill of winter sports in harmony with nature, building a sustainable future where health, inclusivity, and environmental consciousness go hand in hand.
Collaborative Approach
The European Week of Winter Sport project embodies a collaborative approach between the European Commission and Erasmus+ partners, fostering synergies across education, training, youth, and sports. By uniting diverse stakeholders, including sports organizations, educational institutions, and local governments, we aim to promote healthy lifestyles and inclusivity in winter sports while addressing climate change.
This collaboration allows us to leverage shared resources and expertise, enhancing our collective impact. Our common goal is to create sustainable winter sports events that engage communities, promote equality, and contribute to the EU’s priorities of health, sustainability, and active citizenship. Together, we strive to foster a culture of well-being and environmental responsibility throughout Europe.
Project Objectives

Promoting year round physical activities
EWWS emphasizes the importance of staying active even in winter. Many adults reduce their activity levels during colder months, but this project encourages physical activity all year, reminding people that staying active is essential, no matter the season.

Making winter sports accessible and inclusive
EWWS aims to bring winter sports to everyone, not just those who live near the mountains. By organizing affordable and inclusive events, the project helps people overcome barriers to participation, ensuring that winter sports are accessible to underrepresented groups and communities far from traditional winter sports locations.

Driving sustainability and climate action in winter sports
EWWS seeks to combat climate change by promoting sustainable practices in winter sports. The project focuses on making winter sports events more environmentally friendly, raising awareness about the impact of climate change, and providing tools to help local organizations create eco-friendly events that are financially sustainable.

At the heart of the European Week of Winter Sport project lies a strong commitment to promoting eco-friendly practices, ensuring that the joy of winter sports is experienced responsibly and sustainably. This initiative brings together sports organizations, educational institutions, local governments, and community members to foster a culture of active living while addressing environmental challenges.
By utilizing innovative digital tools and inclusive methodologies, the project empowers sports clubs and individuals to advocate for sustainability within their communities. Participants will engage in exciting winter sports events while sharing and implementing best practices in waste management, energy conservation, and resource efficiency.
