About CONIL CONIL School is a Romanian educational organization dedicated to providing an inclusive, supportive, and development-focused learning environment for all children, including those with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, learning difficulties, and other developmental or mobility challenges. Currently, we have over 150 children with disabilities in our care. Our model combines bilingual education (Romanian & English), tailored teaching strategies, therapeutic support, and accessible extracurricular activities to ensure that every child can learn, grow, and thrive at their own pace. We believe that education must adapt to the child, not the other way around, and our programs reflect this philosophy every single day. European Winter Sports Week at CONIL As part of the European Winter Sports Week, CONIL Primary and Secondary School is excited to host an inclusive Winter Sports Competition right on our school grounds! After the success of our Summer School Olympics last autumn, we are proud to launch the Winter 2026 edition of our beloved School Olympics. At CONIL, our mission is to ensure that every child, including those with autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, mobility challenges, and other disabilities, has equal access to sport, movement, and healthy habits. Through our School Olympics, we create a safe, supportive, and joyful environment where all children can explore winter sports adapted to their needs and abilities. Our goal is to promote participation, confidence, teamwork, and physical activity while showing that winter sports can be both inclusive and accessible. We hope this event will inspire some of our students to continue exploring winter activities in the future. Competition Events 1. Ice Hockey on Synthetic Ice Our schoolyard will be transformed with practice ice panels, giving students the chance to experience ice hockey safely. Teams will compete in a fun and friendly match adapted for all abilities. 2. Curling Students will try a child-friendly version of curling on the same synthetic ice surface. This activity focuses on coordination, strategy, and teamwork. 3. Winter Obstacle Course A playful “Winter Adventure Route” where children pass through themed stations such as: -Crawling through a snow tunnel -Stepping across ice blocks (mats) -Jumping over snow mounds (cones) -Sliding across a short glide mat This course encourages mobility, balance, and confidence. 4. Sled Pull Race Teams pull a small sled with a teammate seated inside, racing along a short route. It’s fast, funny, team-based, and perfect for the winter theme! 5. Snowball Target Throw (from European Winter Sports Week inspiration) Inspired by European Winter Sports Week activity ideas, students will participate in a snowball target challenge using soft foam “snowballs.” They score points by hitting targets of different sizes and distances which is a great way to practice motor skills and precision. Why This Matters For Our Students Sports are more than physical exercise: they are tools for therapy, empowerment, emotional development, and social inclusion. For children with disabilities, adapted sports activities offer: -Opportunities to build confidence in a safe and encouraging environment -Motor development and sensory integration benefits that support their daily functioning -Social bonding, teamwork, and communication with peers -A sense of belonging by participating in the same activities as their classmates -Motivation to adopt healthy habits and discover what their bodies can do -Accessible pathways to future sports participation, breaking the belief that winter sports are “not for them” By creating an inclusive Winter Sports Week, we open the door to experiences that many of our students would otherwise never have access to. Therefore, we ensure that every child, regardless of ability, can feel capable, celebrated, and included.
