What is CSS – Carnival Snowboard Session? Carnival Snowboard Session is an international snowboard competition that has been held in the center of Rijeka since 2008. The competition itself lasts one day, and hundreds of spectators have the opportunity to watch about twenty top snowboarders from all over Europe. In the first 11 editions, Carnival Snowboard Session was held in the center of Rijeka, and since the 12th edition it has been organized in Platak. CSS has become a traditional, unique and recognizable event related to the international Rijeka Carnival, which attracts fans of good fun and costumed events to the Rijeka region, as well as many fans of exciting extreme sports. The competition is unique for its snow track, which is located just a few meters from the sea. For the organization of this event, up to 200 cubic meters of snow are delivered by trucks to the center of Rijeka (Gat Karoline Riječka). From 2008 to 2012, CSS was held in the Slopestyle discipline, but since 2013 it has been held in the corner jump discipline (snowboard jumps). In 2014, CSS took a break, and in 2015, it returned to the rails in full glory with a slightly “upgraded” track. From 2023, the Carnival Snowboard Session will be held on Platak in the slopestyle discipline. The organizers, Snowboard Club Nine and the Rijeka Tourist Board, want to promote snowboarding as an attractive and fun sport in this way and bring a small part of this snow sport, from the mountain, to the very center of the city. In addition to promoting snowboarding, there is also the desire for Rijeka and the Rijeka Carnival to offer citizens and visitors another type of winter joy besides the ice rink. One of the goals is to complete the program of the already popular Rijeka Carnival and enrich the tourist offer of the city of Rijeka and its surroundings. In addition to all of the above, a very important factor is the good fun that all visitors have during the competition, both through the competition itself and the accompanying activities.
