Climate change weather episodes: consequences for humans and mountain biodiversity In winter, extreme weather events resulting from climate change have a direct impact on snowy landscapes, high-mountain biodiversity, and human activities, especially winter sports. Irregular snowfall, rising temperatures, snow-free periods, heavy rainfall, or freeze–thaw episodes alter current ecosystems and can also affect the safe practice of snow activities. We propose an interpretive winter outing with snowshoes or ski touring (depending on conditions and participants), focused especially on the weather and climate dynamics of the Eastern Pyrenees. This will help us better understand what is happening in this specific territory and how the effects of climate change manifest there. During the activity we will learn about: • The characteristic high-mountain weather of the Eastern Pyrenees and its recent evolution • The main extreme events experienced in recent years and their impacts • The consequences for mountain biodiversity and ecosystems • How these changes affect winter sports, safety, and the future of snow tourism • Good practices, adaptation, and awareness in the face of climate change
