EWWS 2026: LUNEX University Engages Sport Management Students in a Sustainability Workshop

As part of the growing momentum towards the European Week of Winter Sport (EWWS 2026), LUNEX University (Luxembourg) recently organised an educational workshop with Master’s students in Sport Management, focusing on sustainability and biodiversity in winter sport environments.

The session took place on 17 November 2025 and featured guest expert Anetta Mosr, who led an in-depth presentation on what sustainability means in practice, why it matters in winter settings, and how winter sport organisations and events can implement responsible and environmentally conscious approaches.

Students explored definitions, key principles, and concrete best practices, examining examples from winter sport events, associations, and local initiatives. The workshop aimed to strengthen awareness and equip future sport managers with practical tools to integrate sustainability into their professional contexts.

Following the expert presentation, the students engaged in an interactive discussion with two members of the event crew from a local ice rink, Max and Kim, who plan multiple sport events each year. Together, they analysed real-world challenges and opportunities in winter event organisation, combining academic insight with operational experience.

The session concluded with a hands-on group activity: the students developed their own event concept to be implemented during the upcoming EWWS 2026. Their proposal focuses on organising a winter-themed ball featuring sustainability-driven actions, including:

  • collecting second-hand winter clothing for reuse

  • producing short video awareness campaigns

  • promoting environmentally responsible behaviour through creative engagement

This initiative highlights how universities and young professionals can actively contribute to the values of the European Week of Winter Sport: sustainability, participation, and community impact.

More updates on national and local EWWS activities across Europe will follow in the coming weeks.
